In the wake of price hikes on almost every item on the supermarket shelves, here are some tips on how to let your money stretch:
- Always turn off the electricity when you do not need them - turn on when you enter a room and turn off when you leave.
- Eat-in instead of eating out. You can minimize on the number of times you go out for dinner or lunch. Save them only for special occasions.
- Spend less time in the shower - less water used, less water bill
- When possible buy only during sales - be cautious and check the expiry dates
- Cut down on vacations. Go only once or twice a year but make sure they are memorable enough
- You can start changing your car engine oil yourself instead of sending it to be done at the workshop - or better, persuade your husband to do it for you! - I hate getting my hands dirty too!!
- Invest in a bicycle and use it for short rides - maybe to buy grocery at a nearby shop, or for buying nasi lemak for breakfast (or better, make your own nasi lemak instead of buying them!!)
- Reuse and recycle whenever possible - plastic bag and containers, etc. Remember to bring your own shopping bag especially on a Saturday when you have to pay an extra 20 cents for the plastic bag to put your groceries in!
